At Talus Holdings, we believe ambitious businesses need ambitious people behind them.
That is why we are excited to welcome James Fox to Basin Industries as Executive Vice President of Corporate Development, where he will help lead the company’s next phase of growth and pursue an ambitious objective: To build Basin Industries into a nationwide industrial packaging and material handling platform.
James joins Basin with more than two decades of leadership experience across the automotive, technology and investment sectors, including senior roles focused on scaling organizations and executing growth strategies. In his new role, he will lead Basin’s mergers and acquisitions strategy, seeking established industrial packaging, material handling and related manufacturing businesses across the United States.
For Talus, James’ arrival represents more than an important addition to the Basin leadership team. His combination of experience, ambition, adaptability and willingness to take on a significant platform-building opportunity reflects the kind of entrepreneurial leadership our model is designed to support.
Building something bigger at Basin Industries
Basin Industries was created to bring together specialized businesses with complementary capabilities to create a stronger, more complete industrial packaging and material handling partner.
The platform already boasts capabilities across steel, aluminum, wood, plastic, corrugated packaging, protective dunnage, engineering and manufacturing. Those capabilities have been assembled through a series of acquisitions that expanded both what the organization can provide and where it can serve customers.
Now, Basin is preparing to take that strategy further.
The opportunity ahead is national in scope. James and the broader Basin team will look for businesses that can expand the platform into new geographic markets, add specialized capabilities and strengthen its ability to solve increasingly complex packaging and material handling challenges.
That could mean entering a new region of the United States. It could mean adding a new material, manufacturing process or service capability. Or it could mean partnering with an exceptional local company whose people, customer relationships and expertise can become an important part of the broader Basin organization.
The objective is not simply to accumulate businesses. It is to build a more capable company.
An entrepreneurial mindset for an ambitious growth strategy
Platform building requires a particular type of leader.
There is rarely a perfectly defined path from the starting point to the finished company. Leaders need to evaluate opportunities, make decisions with incomplete information, build relationships, manage risk and continually adapt as the organization grows.
James brings a particularly interesting background to that challenge.
Before his corporate career, he competed as a professional racecar driver—an environment where preparation, judgment, adaptability and the ability to perform under pressure are essential. He later built a business career spanning more than two decades, most recently serving as Senior Vice President and North America General Manager for an electric vehicle charging and software company. Earlier, he served as Vice President of Sales and Operations at VinFast, helping scale the automaker’s North American operations.
Those experiences are very different on the surface, but they share an important characteristic: Each requires someone who can manage complexity without losing sight of the larger objective.
That mindset should serve James well as he helps Basin evaluate acquisition opportunities, build relationships with business owners and translate an ambitious national growth strategy into action.
The kind of leadership Talus exists to support
Talus was built by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs.
Our model is designed to give capable leaders an opportunity to build meaningful businesses with more support behind them. Talus provides permanent capital, meaningful ownership alignment and functional resources while working alongside platform leadership on the challenges that emerge as a business scales.
That support can include corporate development, finance, business improvement, marketing, human resources, administration and other specialized capabilities that would be difficult for an early-stage platform to build independently.
The goal is not to run the business for the operator.
It is to give strong leaders more of the tools they need to execute their vision.
James’ role at Basin is a good example of that philosophy in action. He joins an existing leadership team with a clear mandate to pursue growth, develop relationships with business owners across the country and help turn Basin’s national platform strategy into reality.
At the same time, he can draw on the broader resources and experience available across Talus as Basin evaluates transactions, integrates new businesses and builds the infrastructure necessary to support a larger organization.
That combination—entrepreneurial leadership backed by institutional resources—is at the heart of the Talus model.
Growing without losing what made a business successful
Acquisition-led growth also comes with an important responsibility.
Many of the companies Basin hopes to partner with have been built over decades. Their value is not limited to machinery, facilities or revenue. It is also found in their employees, customer relationships, reputation, specialized knowledge and connection to their communities.
James has made preserving those foundations a central part of Basin’s acquisition philosophy.
In announcing his appointment, he emphasized that owners considering a transaction care deeply about what happens to the business after the deal is complete. Basin intends to approach those relationships as a long-term partner, providing additional resources and growth opportunities while respecting the people and legacies that made those businesses successful.
That philosophy closely reflects how Talus approaches platform building.
Strong platforms are not created by erasing the identities of successful businesses. They are created by helping those businesses become stronger together.
Another entrepreneur begins the next chapter
We are excited to see what James and the Basin Industries team build from here.
Basin already has a strong foundation, complementary manufacturing capabilities and an opportunity to consolidate a fragmented industrial packaging and material handling market. With James helping lead its national acquisition strategy, the platform is positioned to continue expanding its reach while adding the capabilities required to become an increasingly valuable partner to customers across the United States.
For Talus, this is exactly the kind of journey we are built to support: talented leaders taking ownership of an ambitious opportunity, supported by the capital, resources and expertise needed to turn a vision into a durable business.
We are proud to welcome James Fox to Basin Industries and the broader Talus community, and we look forward to supporting him and the Basin team as they work toward building one of the country’s leading industrial packaging and material handling platforms.
